Galen

Sunset Sound System, San Francisco

Inspired by the DIY parties of the UK and reggae soundsystem culture, Galen founded Sunset Sound System by setting up a generator and speakers at a park in Berkeley, California every Sunday to spin records for free he didn’t get a chance to play anywhere else. Word spread and soon crowds into the thousands we’re dancing and picnicking while watching the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline.  Today, Sunset Sound System is on the move with incredible boat and outdoor parties as well as the annual internationally acclaimed Sunset Campout Festival.

Galen developed his signature sound through these weekly jams and as well as his technically proficient yet fluid dj style. The psychedelic music scene of 90s San Francisco provided a launching point to his extensive vinyl collection that spans many genres from classic disco to post-punk to roots reggae and modern house music. His sets can travel a diverse range yet maintain a conscious groove of cohesiveness, always appropriate to the time and place. They are thoughtful, yet never pre-planned, with artfully-timed track selections that spark any dance floor, appealing to the old school just as much as the new.

Jay-J

Shifted Music, San Francisco

Jay-J is a Grammy Nominee, a prolific producer and collaborator spanning over 200 releases, a self-taught studio demon, inventor, and ambassador of the San Francisco sound, an immensely popular and well-traveled DJ. He founded Moulton Studios, the West Coast's most influential dance music studio, had his own Coke® bottle for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was the DJ for the 2006 MTV® AVMAs, and launched two comp series for Defected Records, UK. An impressive resume to be sure. More impressive yet is his continuing self-imposed artistic development, which fuels his ceaseless obsession to learn new technical and creative aspects of his work. He’s remixed artists from Alicia Keys, Jill Scott to Joss Stone, and has collaborated with producers from Kaskade to Miguel Migs. He possesses a drive to keep his music fresh and vital keeping him center stage in the dance music world for over 20 years.

Jay-J founded and built Moulton Street Studios in 1997, a beehive-busy hit factory providing the public and the industry with killer music. Their client list reads like a who's who of dance music. Forever a slave to detail, Jay-J designed his own innovative, world-class production studio complete with a gorgeous live recording room. A self-proclaimed studio geek who loves nothing more than talking about production ideas, software, plug-ins, and audio hardware, except for maybe playing good parties and the “good old days” of record stores and vinyl.

Jay-J's DJ'ing continues to change and evolve, all the while displaying his sharp focus on soul, energy, proper flow, and maximum dancefloor meltdown impact. He's held residencies in more states and countries than most people ever visit, giving him a keen instinct for the chemistry of a particular dancefloor. His mixed CDs for Defected, Distance, Loveslap, and his imprint Shifted Music, show a sphere of influence that reaches well beyond the clubs. Jay-J has lit up world-class venues across the states, and as far as Ibiza, Singapore, Australia, and London, gigging over 27 countries and racking up over 200,000 "DJ miles" in recent years to reach his ever-widening club and party audiences.

Mauricio Aviles

Gritt, San Francisco

Mauricio is an SF native and connoisseur of recorded aural emotion. Born in El Salvador in 1969, Mauricio began his musical journey in San Francisco, California where he grew up in the mainly Spanish-speaking community of Mission District, immersed in the Latin rhythms that percolated through his neighborhood. As a teenager, he worked with his father in the family business, producing Latin cultural concerts and festivals in the Bay Area, gaining the experience and contacts that would later provide the foundation for his involvement in the City’s burgeoning dance scene as it evolved through the 90s. Mauricio played his first DJ gigs at the underground club 'EndUp', developing his own sound and devoted following that remains with him today. Soon after, he picked up residencies at the 'Corazon', a Latin-flavoured weekly event in Mission District, and 'Metrojazz', a popular weekend event that combined downtempo, abstract beats with house – a hybrid style that evolved to define the 'San Francisco Sound'.

Aviles has a special relationship with Salt Lake City through his longtime friendship with New City Movement’s Jesse Walker, and Matthew Fit. He is the soul connection between these two cities if ever there was one.
